Then / Here

Experimenting with the interaction between animated gifs and illustrative stills “Then / Here” is about rebuilding and reliving moments of my childhood in Puerto Rico, certain moments that cannot be relived due to the damage done to the island since Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the earthquakes in 2020. Through a series of linked 2D animated gifs, the aim is to make the viewer feel nostalgia for a place they have never been to and can’t go to anymore. Or if they do, it has been deeply altered by natural disasters and local politics.
